Work Inside a Glass Atrium Structure
Rope access inside a full-height glass atrium, working off the steel structure where no lift can reach. The space below stayed open the whole time.
What was the problem on this building?
A full-height glass atrium needed work at the top of its steel structure. There is no floor to stand a lift on and no way to reach the apex from inside or out by conventional means.
How did the crew reach it without a lift or scaffolding?
Technicians rigged from the structure itself and moved along the trusses on rope, reaching every point of the atrium from the inside. The space below stayed open throughout.
What did the building get out of it?
Access achieved with no lift, no scaffold tower and no closure of the space below.
Why rope access rather than a crane or a swing stage?
A swing stage has to be rigged, loaded onto the roof and moved along the building before any work starts, and it stays on the elevation for the duration. A crane or boom lift needs street or lot space, a closure and a permit. Rope access rigs from anchor points above, reaches the work directly, and leaves nothing on the building at the end of the shift — which is why it suits occupied towers in South Florida where residents, tenants and the entrance below cannot be shut down.
